So what's the poop?

Ok, perhaps not the BEST choice of titles, but it's appropriate. Brighton was a little, ah, well...bound up these last couple of days. So we broke out the emergency stash of prunes. But here's the kicker, he LOVES them! He is his grammy Reilly's grandbaby. I always remember Mom getting the PRUNE kolaches. BLECH! Anyway, they worked, we're regular again and have one more day of eating prunes :)

After going to boob group on Wednesday, a friend of mine there suggested a book on making baby food. So I ran my little butt out to Barnes and Noble yesterday and found it. It's called Fresh Start CWorkbook. Today I made Sweet potato, pear and apple. It's SO FUN! You make it up real quick in the nuker, and freeze it in ice cube trays. I probably made about 2 weeks worth of food in less than an hour. How cool is that? We're still getting a couple of jars of things when they're on sale because, lets face it, it's easy when we go out somewhere. But at home this will be awesome. It's also prompted us to eat a little better ourselves. It's funny, I am pretty particular about what Brighton eats, but I still mow down on chocolate and candy. WELL NO MORE! We're going to be good examples from now on. At least most of the time. When I get a picture of Brighton eating prunes, I'll add it.

Brighton's New Word(s)

Ok well maybe it's not his "official" first word, but he does use it to get a response. His first "word" unspoken is the sign for milk. The sign is to grasp at the air like you're milking a cow. Appropriate huh? He definitely knows it when mom and dad do it. We've caught him doing it from time to time. Dr. thinks it's just a reflex, but I think he's doing it to let us know that he wants milk.

His second new "word" is "mum". He often repeats it over and over when he's upset. "mum, mum, mum, mum". I'm sure he doesn't know that he's saying something very important to his mother, but he does only say it when he wants to be picked up or cuddled. So, it's communication nonetheless. We're working very hard on saying "DAD".

He has also gotten very giggly this last week. It's very funny. He really shows his excitement when mom or dad walk into the room, usually with a big toothless grin and a bit of bouncing. He also seems to be recognizing people he sees frequently. Grandma Mary, Aunt Sally, Grandpa Luke. Sometimes he will get all shy when we're out and a stranger starts talking to him and he buries his head in my shoulder until let him know it's OK. People seem to really fawn over him wherever we go nowadays. Which is of course fine by me so long as they don't touch him. :) I'm still a bit freaky about that since he had a month of getting cold after cold then the flu.

We've discovered that he's ticklish which is cute beyond belief, and he loves being upside down. Not sure what that's all about, but it just cracks him up. He giggles at funny sounds and still likes to try to eat books when we read to him.

He's tried all the stage one foods except prunes. I'm very afraid to give him prunes...I just bought them incase he was bound up. Well, and except bananas because supposedly they have the same effect. But we'll have to do bananas since they're a favorite.

Bright and I both need baths and we're headed to Barnes and Nobles today so I better run. Have a great rest of the week!

A Christmas Re-cap

Wow the holiday really took us by surprise this year. Before I knew it, we were late making candy, rushing off here and there to celebrate Christmas' and it all flew by like a leaf on a cold autumn day. (yeah, that was a bit cheesy).

We all had a great Christmas and hope you all had a wonderful holiday too. Brighton made out like a bandit of course. His first Christmas was I think a bit overwhelming for him.

His first taste at Christmas was pretty low key at Aunt Sally and Uncle Tom's place. He was more interested in the strings on the bags and the krinkly wrapping paper at first. Until he saw Baby Tad! :)

After that nice quiet evening, Christmas Eve struck. Along with 6 other crazy kids looking for their presents under the tree and handing out gifts like they were swatting at bumble bees (yeah, cheesy again, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT! It's 10:30 PM and I'm tired...).

The next morning was our Christmas at home. We started out with pancakes and eggs for breakfast. (I was going to make Lefse or scones both of which I forgot about...) Then the opening commensed. It must have seemed boring compared to the night before, but thankfully, my gracious little chap came through for us and was naturally, happy with his very simple toys that we got for him. We played it low-key this year since we knew he'd make out like a bandit and we didn't want to overdo it.

Then we took a nap...well, some of us took a nap
Before we knew it, we were all pooped and the day was almost over. Andrew made a wonderful dinner of stuffed pork chops and potatoes, complete with a chocolate pie for dessert. Brighton had squash and good ol' milk. We all went to bed that night with a sugar high and full bellies. We are very fortunate and grateful to have each other and our families. Most of all, Andrew and I are so blessed to have this perfect little addition in our lives who makes us laugh and smile and sometimes cry just because we love him so much. We can't imagine our lives with out him.

Just what did Brighton ask Santa for Christmas?

Well, just a quick update on a funny story from yesterday. After taking 1.75 hours to get home from work, Andrew went to pick up Brighton. He was met at the door by a frenzied Rita (day care sitter). Apparently, Brighton is feeling like a big boy and would only eat with a spoon yesterday. Naturally, it was the longest day he was there and he ate all of his milk...with a spoon. HAHA! Silly boy.

Bright went to visit Santa! View all the photos at
www.picturetrail.com/broberb
Today we fed him peas...wasn't impressed. He did his best impression of the baby exorcist, but he's much cuter so it didn't really go over.

Baby it's cold outside!

Man o PETE is it cold outside! Topped out at around 5 degrees today according to the temp gauge in my car. BRRRRRRRR.....Brighton and I woke up to a mess thanks to Mrs. Feebeenella. She decided to get into the recyclables and eat the french onion dip container (which had been washed by the way). Then we went to nursing group, ate at the hospital where he proceeded to make old men laugh and old ladies (and young ladies too) giggle. He's such a flirt. Then we went to, yep, you guessed it, TARGET! Here he is in his winter duds.

When I told him we were going to nursing group!

When I told him it was -3 degrees outside!

My baby's first haircut...

I can't believe we actually did it!! We cut Brighton's trademark original long hair in the front :( I knew we needed to do it because it was 1. hanging in his eyes, 2. tickling his nose, 3. getting all ratted up before a bath. It was time, but it's still sad :( I'll miss seeing that silly hair stick up from static when I take his hat off. I'll miss blowing on it and making it part in the middle, or making it look like a bad combover blowing in the wind.

And So it Begins...

It's been a while!

Brighton and I have been absent for a while now. We've both been sick, and my poor babe has another ear infection which he seems to be getting over finally. So, we had to reschedule his Christmas/6 month photo shoot...but hopefully we'll have them before Christmas to put on Christmas cards.

Brighton is doing so many super fun things now!! He is finally sitting up all by himself. He can fall backwards on his boppy and use his abdominal muscles to pull himself upright again. That's exciting :) He's become a total remote control/cell phone junkie. He sees the remote or the cell phone and his eyes get REALLY BIG and he reaches as far as he can to get them. Ugh...great. Another techie in the family.

He has also graduated to oatmeal and jarred foods. Though we're sticking mostly to the single grain cereals yet. The jarred veggies are a plus right now. I will also let him sneak some lemon yogurt once in a while too, which he loves. Here is a list of the foods he's tried so far- not in any particular order:

Apple (just to gum)
applesauce
lemon yogurt
blueberry yogurt
rice cereal
oatmeal cereal
mashed white potatoes (with a little water)
mashed sweet potato (with breast milk)
gerber jar sweet potato (he ate the WHOLE jar!)

Andrew finally made it home on Thursday Night around 8:30 PM. He was in Pennsylvania for work. Turns out he's going to have to go regularly, so I better get used to it. I was a wreck that week which is why no blogs. But I'm slowly getting back in the swing of things. Brighton and I literally were pajama bums today. We're still in our pajamas and it's 7:00 at night. Given that the temp outside was -9 and didn't get much warmer, we just stayed indoors all snuggled up all day. Now he and daddy are sleeping in the recliner, so I'm playing a bit. But I better get going. I don't have anything pressing to do, it's just really cold in the sunroom and my nose is running :) Take care! And STAY WARM!

Our Day at Paneras

Brighton and I went to have breakfast with the crew at Panera's this morning after dropping daddy off for work. On our way out, just before I put Brighton in his carseat, I was approached by a man who offerred to "sell" me some jumper cables (they were in his van) for a few dollars to get him to Davenport...OMG! I was so freaked...I had Bright in his sling and I quickly put him in his carseat and got into the car and locked the doors. Then I promptly called 911 and told them. I watched him approach another woman, apparently asking the same thing. I caught her eye and mouthed "I'm calling the police" and I watched as she safely went back to her car. All these horrible scenarios were going through my head about what could have happened. I also started visualizing how I would rip this guys throat out if he touched my child. Violent, perhaps, but when it comes to my baby I'm like most moms, I'm like a mother bear. I think I freaked myself out, but we are all OK and the police (naturally) didn't get there in time and the guy was gone when they got there.

Bright just got a new booster seat yesterday. It's really cute and he likes it. Today he sat in the highchair at panera's. It's his first time sitting in a big boy chair! Since he can sit all by himself now!! He's having some tummy time right now. It's hard to remember to do that now that he can sit on his own. We both have colds, he is just getting over an ear infection and I have an inkling that he's got another one coming on from the drainage from this cold >:( But he's doing good. Hmm..what else is new in Brighton's world...No toothies yet, still budding and slobbering and slimey. He's going in for his 6 month pictures on Wednesday. Glad I booked them when I did!! She's now booking in to late Jan or maybe even early February now!! He's also due for his 6 month vaccinations. I don't look forward to that. Well, I better go get some work done. Here's a couple of photos from www.picturetrail.com/broberb

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, you read the time right. It's 5:00 AM and I'm awake. I've been awake since 4 AM, but got out of bed at about 4:45 and let the dogs out in this crazy wind and cold. Started a fire (in our fake fireplace), lit the candles and am brewing me a pot of decaf coffee. Mmmm... I think I just slept really well lastnight or something because I didn't move all night long and when I woke up the first time at around 3 AM, my ear was asleep. Weird. Anyway, Brighton and Daddy are sleeping soundly. I thought I'd let Daddy sleep in and so I took care of the dogs and cats this morning. (even though I had to wake him up to find out where the cat food was).

Bright and I went shopping yesterday. We bought Andrew a new sweater and collared shirt at big boy Gap, and bought Brighton some new clothes too at Baby Gap. They are having some good sales this week so I thought I'd better jump on it and get his Christmas outfit while it was on sale since he gets his 6 month photos next week. I got a stocking stuffer for him too, a big red knit Teddy Bear that sings a lullaby. (SHHHHHH! Don't tell him though...)

What is causing this early morning wake up is that yesterday Andrew asked me who lived at 131 Red Wing Road. "I don't know? Why?" Apparently someone at that address molested an 8 year old girl. It is HORRIFYING to me that a sexual predator lives just 4 houses away from where I grew up. In my quiet little neighborhood. My mom would be livid I'm sure.

Well, I better get my terra cotta pot out of the sink so I can replace the plant. It had some weird white egg looking things on the bottom. I put vinegar in the drip tray hoping that would kill whatever was in there. Seemed to do the trick, but I am still bleaching it and changing soil just incase. YUCK.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

One for the baby book...

I know that being peed on when you have a boy is par for the course. But I never EVER thought that I'd be willing to block the stream with my hand...yep, that's what I did. Brighton and I went shopping today for his Christmas outfit and a couple things for dad. We stopped to change his diaper and his outfit because it was just too darned hot and I was carrying him in his sling for part of the day. Here I am in the changing area at Coral Ridge Mall, with my half naked son. I go to get the diaper ready and all of a sudden I saw it out of the corner of my eye. Everything moved in slow motion...(read the following in quotations very slowly) "NOOOOOOOO SSSAAAVVVEEE TTHHHHE HAAAANNNNNAAAA AANNNNDDDDEEERRRSSSEEENN OONNNNSSSIIIEEEEEE!!!!!" (resume normal reading speed) Before I knew it, my hand was over his privates blocking the stream from his outfit, face, belly button, HEAD. I don't think it hit the mirror, I'm pretty sure I got to it in time. So, frazzled, I grabbed the wipes that I'd just put away, and started cleaning frantically before anyone could see what my beautiful perfect son had just done. And to beat all, I forgot to wash my hands upon leaving the restroom...

Big News Day before Thanksgiving!

BIG NEWS!!! Brighton is sitting up all by himself!!! YAY! Kindof...my baby is growing up. Before I know it he'll be walking then talking then graduating from college!!! But I guess I shouldn't think that far ahead or I'll get depressed. Anyway he's sitting by himself! It's so much nicer giving him a bath nowadays. As of lately we've been bathing together. Ever since his ear infection anyway. He seems to like playing in the tub with his toys. I'm really jsut there to hold him up on his spongey thing.

Monday we went to Panera's to meet some friends of mine and to show off Brighton to his Panera Fans (Lorrenne, Jan, Duane and Naiome . :) I met Kim (Lorrenne's Daughter in law and my friend) and her daughter Katie there. I also saw an old friend (she's not old, it's just been a long time since I've seen her) Annie and her daughter Greta. Sure was nice to see her again, and her daughter is adorable!! Well, I'm just wasting time here getting ready for group, so I better put the photos up and get going.

PS If you get this via email, you will have to visit the website to see the photos :( Sorry about that. Click on http://www.mybrightboy.blogspot.com
Also, just incase you're worried about having your photo posted for all of the Internet to see, don't worry, I have this set up as a private blog, so only those who have the address can see it :)

Was it something I said?

We went to see the Good Doctor Bernhard yesterday morning and lo and behonld, little Brighton has an Ear Infection :( Poor baby. Though I can say he's been better than he was night before last. (DON'T READ THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE IF YOU GET GROSSED OUT EASILY!) He had a big poop yesterday morning and it had little chunks of sweet potato. (YOU CAN START READING AGAIN HERE) So I think that was what was causing most of the pain...Needless to say, we're staying away from sweet potatoes until he can get through his box of rice and then another box of oatmeal.

Anyway, about Bright's poor ears...Maybe I ought to stop swearing around him...Haha. Dr. prescribed some eardrops (benzocaine and Antipyrine) to numb is eardrums so the pressure doesn't hurt him. I've been giving him tylenol too. That seems to help. We opted to wait on the antibiotics and see if he can fight it himself. And since he already seems better (even without the drops) we're going to stick it out another day, but I might have her call in the script anyway, just so we have them over the weekend if we need it. Now, don't tell her, but I've also been putting breastmilk in his ears - straight from the tap. In my Dr. Sears book, it says you can put warm vegetable or olive oil in their ears to help relieve the pain, so I figured, what can it hurt to put Breastmilk in there? Turns out, nothing. And if he gets some antibodies from the milk that helps kill the bacteria, even better. Even though I don't think it can make it down to the inner ear, but it's worth a try "just incase". I think my husband thinks I'm nuts. Oh well, join the club!! Well, Bright is sitting next to me in his rocking chair while I drink my coffee and write this. He might be getting bored, either that or Alanis Morisette is grading on his poor sore ears.

One more thing, It's getting close to Brighton's 6 month photo appointment (the 30th ALREADY!), so if you want a photo of Brighton for Christmas, go to his picturesite at www.picturetrail.com/broberb and let me know which photo you want and if you want a 4 x 6 or a 5 x 7. Give me a little bit so I can number them so it's easier to determine which one it is. While you're there, click on the link to Amy's website! Andrew and I and some friends of mine are on there with our babies!! :)

Who am I and what have I done with myself?

I never would have guessed I would do the things I do as a mom. For example, wiping a snotty nose on my shirt (the inside of course), taking pictures of snot bubbles, waking up at two, three, four, and five in the morning consecutively to make sure my baby is breathing, doing laundry at 5:30 AM (doesn't happen often, but it does happen!!), waking at 4:30 and waiting to call the doctor THE MINUTE they open to get in, and most of all, STOP DRINKING COFFEE!! (Well, caffenated anyway) Yeah, can you believe it? Crazy. Motherhood sure changes a person.

My little sweet potato face

Awww...

Brighton is either teething, has an ear infection or some kind of viral thing going on, and I sure hope not all three, but probably a combination of two of them at least. We're staying home from work today because we are going to the doctor and I (and the daycare) didn't want to take him there in case he does have something viral going on. I've never seen him as upset as he was lastnight and yesterday afternoon. He NEVER EVER cries, at least not for me anyway, and I just could barely console him yesterday. I gave him gas drops incase it was a tummy thing, gave him Hylands Teething tablets incase it was his little toothies coming in, finally at about 7:15 after talking with the doctor (a second time), I gave him tylenol and he felt better. His face wasn't as flushed (I think he had a slight fever) and he seemed more comfortable - that is until he burped. When he burped, you could tell he was hurting, so maybe he had a sore throat. We both ended up taking a warm bath at about 7:30ish and he was feeling pretty good. Dad rescued him and took him out to watch Lost while Mom struggled to get her big slippery butt out of the tub. Bright ended up falling asleep on Daddy's chest at about 8:00 and is still sleeping. He of course, woke briefly when I checked his diaper, but then he nursed and went right back to sleep. Speaking of which, I'd better go check on him again.

PS. I've added you all to the Google Groups List which will send you an email automatically when I add a post to the blog. It took a little figuring out, but I finally got it. :)

One Cold Cold evening

It's 1 am and I'm awake. My family, pets included (except for obnoxious cats) are all sleeping soundly like they should be. I'm not sure why I'm awake to be honest. I just woke up at around 12 AM and couldn't get back to sleep. I tried the warm milk trick an so far no go.

Today was Bright's first day of his new daycare. I think he liked it. I called in the middle of the day and they said he was eating great, had no problems with the bottles and was laughing and smiling at the other kids (who adore him probably just because he's a baby). One little boy is so enamoured with him. Every time Brighton sees him, Bright smiles and that just seems to light up this kids' day. "He LIKES me!" HAHA It's so cute. It's a lot different than at Gretchen's though. I liked being able to drop Brighton off where it's nice and quiet and laid back, where I feel like he can have a restful day. I don't imagine he slept too much today. When I came home from work he was conked out on the couch. But I'm sure he'll be fine, and I'm sure the day just flew by for him with so much action. All that blubbering after dropping him off was probably just silly nerves.

We gave Brighton sweet potatoes tonight. We had sweet potatoes for supper and so I cut off a piece mashed it up and added some milk and gave it to him. He liked it! We did have to freeze most of it in a bag though. I hand expressed some milk into the potatoes to make them a bit mushier. Like mashed potatoes. We really need to get an ice tray, that would be a lot easier...and a lot cleaner to get in the bag. Well, I better sign off and try to get some sleep or I'll never make it to nursing group in the morning!

We had a great weekend. Andrew's sister Amy was here this weekend and so we hung out with her for a while on Friday night, went beading then to dinner at my favorite Mexican place on Saturday when I got home from work and then we went shopping for fake eyelashes on Sunday. We had a lot of fun.
Aunt Amy N Bright

Today Bright and I were pretty lazy. We went this morning to run errands, and got home about 1:00. Ugh. I didn't want to leave at all. It was cold and miserable and rainy YUK! We finally fell asleep for our nap at around 2:00/2:30 after daddy called. When we woke up at 4, I looked outside and I saw the biggest snowflakes I've seen in a long time falling outside of our window. The ground was blanketed in white, it was really cool. The first snowfall of the winter!! We dressed Bright as fast as we could in his bunting and winter hat and booted outside for his first snowfall. But I think he was just wondering what the heck we were doing because he wasn't all that interested :) And by the time we got outside, the flakes had gotten substantially smaller, you can barely see them in the photo. Oh well, he'll get the idea when he's older. Well, Medium is on so I better go. Have a good night!

Sunday, November 13, 2005

I'm sitting here drinking my decaf coffee with hopefully good creamer in it...had a bad dose of creamer in Philadelphia about 2 years ago and I will never ever forget it as long as I live. But Decaf isn't really cutting it this morning. It was a long night lastnight. The wind kept me up most of the night freaking out that we were going to have some crazy freak tornadoes. But it's just our strong fall winds. I swear a couple of times it sounded as if our willow tree in the back was going to come bashing through our sunroom windows. Naturally, Bright and Andrew slept through it and I was the one up every hour checking the news. Oh well, so it will be from now on I suppose :) Mom the worry wort, dad and son snoozing away knowing that if there's the slightest inkling that tragedy might strike, mom will be up getting packed ready to go to grammie and grampies' house :).

I talked to Jill yesterday and things are going well, I knew they would. I'm having some trouble this morning though thinking about how I can go out there and help her with the house stuff so she doesn't have to worry about it, though I'm sure she's probably not worrying about it...at least I hope not anyway. I wish I could just jump on a plane and go out there this week. Her babe is beautiful, of course, and I think little Jackie looks like her mommy. I can see both Jason and Jill, but I can see Jill in her for sure. Isn't she beatiful?!
Beautiful Baby Girl!

Well, I better hit the road. We're going to the pancake breakfast at the Memorial Building this morning with Andrew's mom and sister. Yearly benefit for the Vetrans. So we go every year. Have to get the troops ready for the feast as well as myself and be at Grammie's at 7:30. Pancakes, HERE WE COME!

Friday, November 11, 2005

Two posts in one day! Brighton is really starting to show his sweet little personality. Before we left for grocery shopping today, I had him in his carseat and was making silly "cousin It" sounds and he was just giggling up a storm! I think we sat there doing that for a full 5 or so minutes. I could have stayed there longer, but I I've had a horrible headache and the head bobbing was really starting to hurt. But it was worth it to see my little boy smile and laugh. I just wish Dad could see it! Dad doesn't have the hair to do that, but dad makes him giggle in his own way.

Here's the obligatory baby holding beer picture. Sorry, we don't have any cigarettes. Don't worry, Brighton didn't taste it.
YAY! NEWS UPDATE! Jill, my friend in San Diego just had her baby (Jacolyn Teresa - I'm not yet sure how she is spelling it) yesterday morning! She had a little girl with lots of dark brown hair, dimples (on her face cheeks), and weighed in at 7 lb 4oz (right? or was it 6?) and is 18 inches long. I'm sure she's just beautiful! For some reason, I had always invisioned the baby coming out looking just like Jill! Just like a little minime. :) I can't wait to see pictures of her! I can't wait to see her! She's coming home hopefully around the end of January. She came a little earlier than expected, so he trip obviously will have changed. Which is cool, then I'll just get to meet her sooner!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS AUNTIE JILL!!!

TGIF! Bright and I slept in again today. Boy is he snotty! I didn't know one little boy's nose could contain so much mucus...guess it's the first in a long line of grossnesses. But it's a funny thing about your own baby's snotbubbles. They don't bother me NEARLY as much as someone elses' child's snotbubbles. Don't get me wrong, they're promptly removed when seen, but with Bright's I don't mind if I get it on my hands...well...not as much anyway. I'm feeling a little better, I had one night that I was pretty stuffed up, but I seem to be feeling better. I hope Bright does the same thing. I feel so bad for him. He has a diaper rash, he's teething, AND he has a cold...poor little guy.

Speaking of teething, I think I can feel a little hard spot on his gums. Wonder how soon it will be before a little toothie pops out!! Well, I better get going. Have some doggles coming over today to be groomed.

Thursday, November 10, 2005

At around 5:15 this morning Andrew and I had some excitement...no not the kind you're thinking of..you perves!! Guinness (the cat) was freaking out behind our grandmother clock and lo and behold, there was a mouse. EEEEEEKS!!! So we moved teh clock out, off the mouse ran down the wall behind the chair, then back, then back behind the chair. Stopped behind my gourds. "GET GUINNESS!!!" Worthless cat. We got him, put him RIGHT in front of the mouse and he looked at it, and walked away. UGH! Even my diabetic/blind dog was taking some interest in the darn thing and would have caught it had it not eventually ran behind the 5000 pound entertainment center. OH well, I'm sure one of the four animals in the house will get it by the time we get home. I just hope if they eat the head (yes, they will do that!) they leave the endtrails on the linoleum...

BAD MOMMY! I was going to let Brighton sleep at least until I was done with my new post, but then I heard my alarm go off!! DARN IT! I forgot to turn the alarm off! Oh well. Maybe he'll take a nap this morning then. It's 6 AM and we're all awake.

Brighton had nursing group yesterday, he weighed in at 16 lbs 5 oz! What a lug! Just last week he hadn't gained anything from the previous week and he was 15.14. In fact, he'd lost 1/2 ounce (which probably came out in his diaper). Then we went to lunch with my friend Tami and her daughter Zoe. SHe is SO DARN CUTE! We determined while walking through Von Maur that it was a good thing Andrew and I had a boy or we'd have a serious over population of clothes. Well, time for work!! BRight's going with me again today...fun fun!! We're having lunch at Iguana's today..yummy.

Tuesday, November 08, 2005

Brighton went to work with me today. Thankfully, I work with wonderful people in a small clinic where I can do that when needed. He just lay in his pack and play, chewed on his toys, watched baby einstein DVD until I came back in to feed him. Then we switched to A Midsummer Night's Dream, and he fell soundly asleep for about three hours!! He had some malt-o-meal and chewed on a piece of pear (but he didn't eat any). That might have done it. That and that it was warm in the clinic today.

It is kind of fun to let him experience eating "grown up" food. He thinks he needs to grab at anything we have in our hands. Yesterday I couldn't keep him out of the dish that his rice cereal was in! And we have to stop him because he won't stop eating. I know when he's full because he will turn his head and become distracted. But he sees the spoon and still wants more! He's so silly. I'm not sure how much of the MOM or Rice he ACTUALLY ingested to be honest. He has put my fears of him not wanting to nurse once he starts "real" food to rest. He wants his cake and to eat it too :)

Trying to stay home today. Bright and I aren't feeling great, but the sun is out and I'm getting antsy. Thought we might go mall walking and I'd exchange his hat. But so far I'm still sitting on my butt not having even brushed my teeth yet let alone taken a shower. Bright needs a bath too, but we're feeling pretty crappy. So I guess we better just stay home.

We stayed in bed this morning until 10:30 or so then I came out here and have been on the computer, not doing what I need to be doing, but just playing. Fixing pictures etc.

Brighton managed to sit up for a couple of minutes today on his own!! Without the boppy! I sat him up on the bed with a wedge behind him and a pillow on either side. He sat there for a while, long enough for me to get my camera and take a couple of pictures before he came tumbling down :) Goldarnit is he cute or what?

It's been a crazy couple of days. Brighton and I are both coming down with a cold, Andrew and I went and got our flu shots (did I mention that already?), Friday I spent making my friend's pouch and an apple pie-which I was afraid that I put YAHOO! Chili spices into, but I didn't thank goodness. Saturday I worked, got home then sat on our butts the rest of the night since I've been feeling totally crummy. I can tell Bright is too because he is sleeping a lot more the last couple of days. He fell asleep at 6:00 PM lastnight and slept until 3, woke up, pooped, ate and fell back asleep at 4:00 AM. Mom was of course, still awake, but fell back asleep as soon as I laid down next to him on the couch where we slept until 7:00 (AM) Today we had a nice breakfast at my In-law's house and my MIL cut my hair!! Two inches is all off the bottom, but it looks totally different and I love it. Then Bright and I went to our Gourd Patch meeting, ate cookies, made a huge mess with gorilla glue and Das clay, went grocery shopping and now finally back home. We're both pooped. I thought I'd log on and update before Charmed comes on.

ANYWAY, this is a Brighton Blog, not a mommy blog. Bright is sitting up a little better with assistance. He gets bored sitting though, I wonder what that's about? Maybe he just gets tired. We sit him in his boppy and let him play on his blanket. He will sit up for about 5 minutes before he scoots out of it. If he's on the couch with us he will sit up a little too on our laps for a longer period of time, especially if Thomas The Train or Bob the Builder is on :) I think that will be enough for tonight. I'm pooped and Andrew says supper is ready. Have a good night!

So far today I've done nothing productive except make toast and feed my son. I'm attempting to make a mini pouch for a friend to give to another friend's daughter for her birthday-which is tomorrow. Nothing like waiting until the last minute! I'm also going to attempt to make an apple pie today...from scratch. I was looking for recipes and found that apples will spark in the microwave...interesting.

EDIT: See my pie?

Here's a group photo of some of us at the hospital yesterday. brighton is in his stroller since I hurt my back...GOSH the kids were SO CUTE!

Little punkin is still sleeping...it's 5:36 AM, DH is off to work and surprisingly, I'm awake. Been searching for receipts for items that I have to take back to Target today. I still have to go through my stash for Jill (my friend who is expecting THIS MONTH!!! in San Diego) and take out some of the newborn stuff and take that back before I drop all the bags off at her mom's to take with her. YIKES! She has a haul just from me. I have a real problem buying baby clothes. Is there an 800 support group for that?

We're getting flu shots today (Andrew and I). I'm a little freaked out to be honest. I've never had a flu shot and so many people I talk to that HAVE had them get sick. But Bright will get my immunities so it's important for at least me to get one since he can't have one yet. Well, I'm off to get myself ready and drink some much needed coffee before the munchkin awakes. Have a great day!

We went to nursing group today and visited the aged center at the hospital. It was pretty neat to see all the folks smile and coo at the babies. At the same time, gosh, it was sad. All I could think was that the folks that had babies of their own were probably remembering what it was like, and hopefully, it brought back fond memories of parenthood. And those who didn't have babies, I sure hope they're OK with that. I know not everyone wants or can have children, and I wish I could just bottle up the feeling for them so they can experience it. Only the good parts of course :) Then again, there are those who already seem to know that feeling with children that aren't even theirs. And they are lucky. Going to places like that makes you think about your own mortality that's for sure. It was nice to see them smile anyway. And naturally, Brighton gave them all big smiles and giggled/snorted for some. My friend Amy says that he has a good energy about him and a sweet soul. I have to agree. He sure is the light of our lives.

After group, we went to visit a potential day care. OMG! It seemed OK, it seemed fun, all the kids were happy. None were sitting in front of the tele-even though it was on. It was just a little more chaotic than I had anticipated. I'm so comfy with Brighton going to my friend Gretchen's house and being like he's at home and I'm a little afraid to give that up. But I also know that it's good for Brighton to be with other kids. And I'm sure that Gretchen is ready to have her freedom back. After all, it's only twice a week right? The one thing that bothered me, was that when I called at around 1:30, the owner wasn't there (at a Dr. Appt) and the "helper" was there with 6,7,8 (?) kids. YIKES! She explained to me that if she leaves, she leaves during naptime and is usually only gone for 1 1/2 hours +/- but it still made me nervous. On the other hand, I understand that she has appointments too that she has to make. So, I guess I can live with that. Ugh...why can't I just win the lottery or be the heir of some fortune? Oh well, real life has a way of smaking you in the face and you just have to fess up and DO IT. It's always hardest the first time right?

Well, I better get to making my husband supper since he's going to be home late tonight and I'm hungry already. I have a killer headache and yes, my back is still hurting, though not as bad as it was yesterday. Have a great night! Signing off!

Andrew and I took Brighton trick or treating lastnight with our nieces and nephew. We went to the little town east of here. Brighton had on his teddy bear bunting from Old Navy (BOUGHT FOR $4.49!!!! WOWZA! I got it yesterday HA HA). We colored his nose black and gave him some whiskers. Brighton made quite a haul for a toothless bandit. :) I tried telling the people that he couldn't have any of the candy yet, but they said, "Mom and Dad can though!" and gave us a treat or two. It was really sweet.

Staying home from work today. Something is going terribly wrong with my back and I can barely pick up my son! I've been to the chiropractor already, which didn't really seem to help despite all the cracking and popping I heard. I'm hoping after I ice it, I'll feel better. Just thought I'd hop on while Bright is still asleep in his carseat. My house is a freaking wreck, but I can't bend down to pick anything up off the floor without screaming in pain. I suppose I could swiffer...but not vaccuum...So I guess Bright and I will have a fun day just lying around alternating ice and heat packs looking at my wreck of a house.

I've been looking through other bloggers blogs. Boy, is mine boring! I guess I've just started, so it may get more interesting right? Riiiiight...
Reconsidering this blogging spot for Brighton's photos and such! Lots of "crap" on here but I guess you're going to have that everywhere. Most aren't family friendly and I just don't get a great feeling from most of the blogs, ya know? So keep checking, I might be switching blogspots...

Happy Halloween! Brighton isn't dressing up today, just a little outfit from Old Navy. But we have lots of ideas for next year!!! He's a pumpkin all year round anyway.

Saturday Night, we tried Brighton on Rice Cereal and breastmilk. He loved it!! But it didn't go quite fast enough with the spoon, so I suppose we'll have to work on that. :) Brighton also has a new noise that he's discovered he can make. He likes to crinkle up his nose and snort! Especially when he's excited. I think he's figured out that when he does that, we giggle and so he keeps doing it. It's the cutest thing ever.

I hope to be working on this blog soon so it will be a full fledged diary of Brighton including pictures! But for now, happy Halloween and I'll write again later!
